Wala Connections: Movement and Dance

This event is hosted by the Contemplative Studies Centre.

Wala Connections exists to deepen all people’s connection to Country and culture, inspiring self-expression and healing through movement and dance. You are invited to join any time throughout this 6-week online series and encouraged to actively participate in grounding exercises, song, movement and dance designed for all abilities and ages in a safe and engaging way.

Led by Aboriginal facilitators, Wala Movement sessions draw on the ancient therapeutic uses of dance and song that are in our DNA as First Nations people. To further inform this practice we incorporate the teachings of Dance Movement Therapy, the relational and therapeutic use of dance and movement to further the physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and cultural alignment of a person.

What attendees can expect

Attendees can expect to participate in some grounding exercises and move their bodies to the best of their abilities, sitting or standing, in a safe and engaging way. Attendees are encouraged to find some space in a safe environment with limited distractions.

No specific cultural dances will be taught in this session as it is available to all genders, ages, cultures and experiences with movements and practices designed for all people.

This online guided practice series will run every week from Friday 21 April – Friday 26 May 2023. Please register once to indicate your attendance throughout the series, or register for the individual sessions you plan to attend.
