DIF2023 Opening Cyber Debate

Battle lines are drawn, debaters make their case, the audience decides who wins. As an event partner of the DIF2023 Festival, AISA is delighted to lead the official opening of the festival with a lively debate. Hosted at the Melbourne Connect on Wednesday 23 August 2023 this event is sponsored by the State Government of Victoria as part of the Digital Innovation Futures initiative.

DEBATE: The cyber risks of using AI tools like ChatGPT outweigh the benefits

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been making a significant impact in various industries and is changing the way businesses operate. One of the most notable innovations in AI is the use of AI-powered chatbots, such as ChatGPT. ChatGPT has been designed to simulate human-like conversations and provide quick and efficient responses. More people are starting to use ChatGPT as they discover the extent to which it can be used, this has ranged from writing a joke to solving an equation.

This forms the basis of a debate around whether ChatGPT is useful or not, and whether the cyber risks of using AI tools like ChatGPT outweigh the benefits.

The Affirmative team will argue that the use of chatbots in businesses offers several benefits, including round-the-clock customer support, reduced response times, ability to manage repetitive tasks and focus staff on more complex tasks. The Negative team will argue that the risks far outweigh the benefits, as the tool can be used for fraudulent services generation, harmful information gathering, malicious text generation, malicious code generation and offensive content production. Who is right and who is wrong or is there some common middle ground?

Meet the Team Captains
