In December 2024, Melbourne Connect welcomed the Japanese Consul General, Furuya Tokuro, alongside representatives from Red Dot Drone and Softbank as they showcased an impressive demonstration of their latest long-distance drone operation technology. From the heart of Melbourne Connect, the team from Red Dot Drone expertly controlled a drone in Osaka, Japan, highlighting the extraordinary capabilities of this breakthrough technology.
Through the utilisation of existing 5G telephone and satellite services, there were no modifications required to the hardware of the drones themselves. These innovations hold promise of potential for a wide range of applications, from enabling accessible tourism to enhancing capabilities in disaster forecasting and prevention strategies.
In addition, our visitors were able to take a tour of the Telstra Creator Space, immersing themselves in its state-of-the-art facilities. The tour showcased cutting-edge technology, including brand-new CNC machines, a suite of advanced 3D printers, and an indoor drone net. Guests also engaged in insightful discussions with the Melbourne Connect Partnerships Team and the student president of the newly established Drone Aviation and Racing Engineering Society (DARES), uncovering exciting opportunities for collaboration within this dynamic ecosystem.
This event underscores Melbourne Connect's role as a hub for global innovation and collaboration, showcasing the power of cross-border partnerships in driving technological progress.
