Dr Cathy Oke, Director of the Melbourne Centre for Cities in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, has been selected as a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report on Climate Change and Cities.
Dr Oke joins an esteemed group of over 90 global experts contributing to this groundbreaking report, which will provide critical insights into urban climate action.
“I’m honoured to have been selected alongside so many esteemed colleagues to deliver this vital report. Synthesizing climate science and case studies at a city-level is not only about presenting inspiring work but is critical for our collective future,” said Dr Oke.
Scheduled for release in March 2027, the report will bridge the latest scientific findings with practical, city-focused solutions to address the urgent challenges posed by climate change.
Renowned for her leadership and dedication to sustainable urban development, Dr Oke will bring her extensive expertise to shape this pivotal publication. Her contributions aim to inspire transformative action and empower cities worldwide to advance their climate resilience and sustainability goals.
Dr Oke said she looks forward to collaborating with colleagues from the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning, Melbourne Centre for Cities, Melbourne Climate Futures and partners in practice, including Global Covenant of Mayors and UN Habitat, to integrate local climate knowledge needs and innovative case studies into the writing process.
